Bank Statement to Tally Pro / Docs

Bank Statement to Tally Pro: troubleshooting

Tally says a ledger does not exist

Create the ledger in Tally with exactly the name in vouchers.csv (spelling and spaces), or change your rule, then import again.

Error: no header row found

Open the file and check it has a date column, a narration column and debit/credit or amount columns. Rename one header to Date, Narration, Debit or Credit if your bank uses an unusual name.

A transfer between my accounts shows as a Payment

Add --own-account LAST4=Ledger for the other account, or a contra rule with the words in that narration.

Balance breaks are reported

A line is missing or was edited in the file. Download the statement again for the full period.

Claude does not use the skill

Check it is switched on in Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then name it in your message.

The script says a column is missing

Rename your header to one of the names in README, or say the mapping in your message.

Code execution is off

Skills with scripts need code execution enabled in Claude.ai settings.

FAQ

Does it post into Tally for me? No. It writes an XML file. You import it with Gateway of Tally > Import > Vouchers, after a backup.

Can it read PDF statements? No. Download the statement as CSV or Excel from net banking. Most Indian banks offer it next to the PDF.

What does Pro add over the free version? Several statements in one run, Contra vouchers for ATM, cash and own-account transfers, party matching from UPI/NEFT/IMPS names, skipping lines already in your Day Book, regex and amount rules, and voucher numbers.

Is my data uploaded anywhere? The script makes no network calls. In Claude.ai the files are in your Claude chat; in Claude Code or plain Python they stay on your computer.
