Question Paper Builder: setup guide

Your question bank and a blueprint become one question paper and its answer key in Word and Markdown, with sections, marks and internal choices laid out and the totals checked.

Who it is for: School teacher, tuition teacher or coaching institute in India making unit tests, periodic tests and pre-boards from questions they already have.

What it does

Your bank is checked row by row (types, marks, MCQ answer letters; duplicates and bad rows are listed and skipped). For each blueprint row it picks questions of that type and marks, adds an alternative for each internal choice (same chapter where possible), writes the general instructions from the blueprint and lays out the paper and answer key. The same title and seed always give the same paper; change --seed for another.

What you need

  • Claude.ai with code execution switched on (or Claude Code, or just Python 3.10+)
  • Your own questions in a CSV or sheet (Claude can help convert them)
  • Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice to open and print the paper

5-minute setup

  1. Claude.ai: open Settings → Capabilities → Skills, click Upload skill and pick claude-ai-upload/question-paper-builder.zip.
  2. Claude Code: copy the folder skills/question-paper-builder into ~/.claude/skills/.
  3. Start a new chat. Attach your file and say: "Use question-paper-builder. Make a 40-mark periodic test for Class X Maths from my question bank with an answer key".
  4. Claude runs the script and gives you the files listed under Outputs. Check them before you act on them.

Try it with the sample

Run the sample (a fictional 39-question Class X Maths bank written for this product):

This product does not call an AI model at run time. It was built by Oarsman AI's AI agents and checked by the automated tests shipped with it.

Limits: - One paper per run; sets, chapter weightage, difficulty mix and no-repeat history are in Pro. - Arranges your questions; it does not write questions or check that answers are right. - Plain text only: images, diagrams and equation objects are not placed. - Internal choices go to the last questions of a section.

Not tested by us: - opening the .docx in Microsoft Word itself (checked in LibreOffice) - printing - banks in scripts other than Latin and Devanagari
